World Earth Day: Our sustainability practices at Eden

Our planet is the only one we have. Similarly, we only have the one body. It’s up to each and every one of us to take care of both.

World Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world, marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behaviour and create global, national and local policy changes.

As individuals and collectively we can all do our bit for the environment. As part of this year’s World Earth Day, Eden is highlighting its continued commitment and respect towards the land it resides upon, by focusing on its efforts towards recycling, rejuvenation and respect.

As Australia’s longest-running health retreat, we have continued to respect the original Eden site when it was first established 37 years ago. We are dedicated to nurturing our 380 acres of magical tropical rainforests within the Currumbin Valley, and very little of the landscape has changed over the years. We encourage our guests to respect their surroundings too, by introducing them to the wonders of our environment through rainforest walks and night-time adventures spotting fireflies and other nocturnal creatures.

We have recently introduced our new Cascade Lodges, Premier Suites and Premier Single accommodation styles, all of which have been eco-sensitively built and furnished with eco-friendly decor and amenities.

We ensure that our suppliers are similarly-minded when it comes to caring for the environment: which is why we have established a long-standing relationship with Eminence and use their products to pamper and treat our guests in the spa. Not only are their products good for you, but Eminence plant one tree for every product sold (to date they’ve planted more than 17 million trees!). Now that’s the sort of commitment we’re a fan of!

Closer to home, Eden has introduced many environmental and sustainable concepts to the retreat. We collect a large amount of solar power on the property to meet the demands of our high use areas including the gym, treatment rooms and pool facilities, whilst reducing our carbon footprint.

Our guests enjoy drinking from our refillable, reusable and complimentary water bottles – the reason the water is so delicious? It’s from our very own natural underground spring. We also harvest this water and direct it where needed throughout the property.

The food at Eden is mouth-watering, and it has a good conscience too. Our chef sources primarily organic ingredients within a 200km radius, which helps to keep our food kilometres to a minimum. Our seafood is also responsibly sourced. As we continue with our renovations, we plan to increase the amount of food grown within the retreat (more on this soon!).

Even our waste is guilt-free. We have our own compost and recycling program set up for our waste and continue to strive to keep this to a minimum.

As any guest to Eden can tell you, we truly are located within paradise. We are committed to the work required to improve our green credentials so that we can all continue to nourish our mind and body in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
